Featured Free Workshop Sponsored by Metro DCHC & the Rosario School

On Tuesday, June 13th at 6:30 pm, onstage in the Auditorium at the Carlos Rosario International Charter School (CRICC), 1100 Harvard St. NW, an extraordinary workshop will be held to support construction entrepreneurs and workers in their efforts to build successful, prosperous and well run construction firms. Free and open to the public, this forum features four highly successful panelists who will share their knowledge of the industry and provide important information regarding the challenges facing the construction industry.

Sponsored by DC Metro Hispanic Contractors Association (MDCHCA) and the CRICC in collaboration with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GWHCC) and the Latino Safety Professionals (LSP) this event is planned to support and encourage the growth of small Hispanic, Minority and Immigrant owned businesses in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

The four panelists who have graciously donated their time for this remarkable session are:

The owner and CEO of Crystal Insurance, Margarita Dilone, with more than 25 years of experience in liability insurance, workman's compensation and bonding will speak about the financial challenges to managing a construction firm. Ms. Dilone is the incoming Chair of the GWHCC Board and a lifelong leader in the local Hispanic community.

Jorge Otalora is the President of the Latino Safety Professionals and a highly regarded Safety Director with HOAR Construction. Jorge will speak about the importance of integrating safety features into construction site plans and how a well run worksite cuts down on overhead and accidents to create a more successful contractor. More than 60% of worksite accidents occur to Hispanic workers, thus making Mr. Otalora's message that much more urgent.

A partner at Montgomery & Fazzone and representative to various large General Contractors, Bryan Short has dealt with the hazards of unplanned and unprotected growth in companies who then find themselves in a bind and hamstrung because of lack of legal and financial planning. With international and multi-cultural experience as well Mr. Short can speak to the pitfalls and unexpected outcomes of poor legal advice.

President of Metro DC Hispanic Contractors Assoc., Edwin Villegas runs a successful General Contractor, Winmar Construction, out of his offices in Georgetown DC and Miami Fl. With a degree in Construction Management from Villanova University, a sharp mind and a quick tongue, Edwin is ideal for a workshop of this nature due to his generous spirit and affinity with young entrepreneurs.

This hands on, interactive workshop is the first in a series at the Rosario School that includes an OSHA-10 training in July, a bi-lingual four part pilot Construction Management training program in September, and a 6 hour Construction Expo in October. The Metro DC Hispanic Contractors Association is also holding its "2nd Annual Diversity in Construction Reception" on October 5th, 2017.
