This year for the first time ever, leadership from Metro DC Hispanic Contractors Association (MDCHCA) was invited to attend the International Builder's Show (#IBS) celebrated and sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) from January 9th to 11th, 2018. One of the largest, most important construction related events in the country, it was filled with over 1 million square feet of exhibition space throughout various convention halls in Orlando, Florida. Attendance was somewhere in the range of 100,000 participants. The guest keynote speaker was the ebullient and always funny ex- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Terry Bradshaw.
We had a blast! Chair, Carlos Perdomo of Keystone Plus, President, Edwin Villegas of Winmar Construction, Humberto Garces of Green Construction Services Group and this author visited a baffling number of exhibits that highlighted the most modern trends in home construction with dazzling demonstrations of the newest technology in kitchen and bathroom 'couture' from $12,000 toilets to $50,000 refrigerators (view photographs), spectacular displays and innovations and luxury items that even included a custom made $500,000 bomb shelter and indoor simulated golf courses for your living room.
The #IBS delighted our contingent from Washington DC and provided a glimpse into the future of construction. It renewed us and opened our eyes to the potential progress we can make as a group of energetic, young, gifted entrepreneurs. Next year the affair will be held in Las Vegas and we plan to organize a group of members to attend.
Our thanks to Guiliana Navas-Cord, Lauren Wallace and Deborah Malone for their coordination and continued support on the part of the NAHB. MDCHCA is proud and honored to be partner to the NAHB and we look forward to future collaborations and relationships.
